At The Dupont Farmers Market Jan. 6, 2008- The Rise Of Bread

Sunday found the Dupont Farmers Market not quite as bustling as usual. The line formed at Bonaparte Bakery had not reached the street and turned into its’ usual ”L” shape if that’s any indication. Several spaces were bare asphalt and I missed seeing the flowers as I walked into the parking lot portion of the market. Nonetheless, I found inspiration in a cherry chocolate bread from Atwater Bakery. I think I’ll make bread pudding with it-stay tuned!

There were apples galore to be sampled as well as soups, stews and sauces. I really need to get better timing for those crab cakes samples I see frying up. I never seem to walk by just when one is set out to try. And really, I don’t want to be one of those people who hovers as the food is cooking with the thought bubble above my head “Hey, can you make that cook any faster?”. I save that desparate and uncool behavior for Costco because I know no one there will notice. I just blend in with the restof the suburbanites.

I tried a new cheese at Keswick Creamery- Blue Suede Moo. It’s a cow’s milk blue cheese which is aged for 6 months. If i didn’t know it was cow’s milk, I would have assumed it was goat’s milk because it was quite salty. I’m undecided; I think I need another sample to see if I’d buy it.

Enjoy the slide show. Until next “At The Market”……
